Laurie Keesey is a wonderful volunteer for Lighthouse for Life who helps us organize and manage events and has been helping us set up Karis Home.
“I learned about Lighthouse For Life through Jen Thompson when she came to speak at my small group. I wanted to get involved, and ask her what I could do. She put me to work at my first event; Columbia International University showing the movie Caged No More. I worked that night making bags, welcoming guests, and then cleaning up after the guests were gone. On the drive home I realized that what I had just watched was a movie on modern day slavery. I thought, ‘What if I had lived during slavery in the South and someone came to me and asked me to help abolish slavery. What would I have done? What would I thought?’ I’m not sure I would have had the courage to stand up, but I felt like God said, ‘Will you do that today?’ And I had to answer yes. So I asked Jen to put me to work and she did. I asked her what she needed and she said, ‘what do you like to do?’ I told her I like to feed people and make things pretty. So that’s where I’ve been volunteering. The Karis Home has been a very special project and I have loved seeing it come together, and praying for the girls who one day will move in there and find true healing. Volunteering with the people that I get to work side-by-side with has truly been a blessing and I have seen growth in my life like I never thought I would. It’s been very challenging and yet so fulfilling! Thank you, Lighthouse For Life, for giving me the opportunity to work with such great people and serve our community.”

On September 8th, a team of people came together to unload a truck full of beautiful furniture into Karis Home! Thank you, again, to the Joseph Project and Jordan’s Furniture in Florence, SC, as well as St. Peter’s Lutheran church and all the volunteers who made this day possible! It felt like Christmas and Birthday all wrapped up in one as we set things up!
