“I am Mary Eaddy Baker, a Lexington resident and retired non-profit agency director. Several years ago, I learned about Lighthouse for Life at an information
session on Human Trafficking at Mt. Horeb UMC. After retiring a few years ago, I donated items to L4L and talked with Lisa and Jen about volunteer
opportunities. I signed up and now volunteer one morning per week, if needed, to put together materials for distribution at events; roll and label
T-shirts; write notes; stuff envelopes; sort freedom bags; or whatever task is needed. I also circulate information at events and talk with attendees
about the work of L4L and human trafficking. My husband, Gary, was also recruited as a volunteer. He uses his talen and experience to edit and proofread
materials for L4L.
God doesn’t give us gifts to squander; He expects that we will use our gifts, talents and time in His mission. L4L is truly fulfilling God’s purpose and
is a great place to use gifts of all sorts to help put an end to Human Trafficking. 1 Peter 4:10. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received
to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
WOW! It has never felt more real that we are about to open the doors of Karis Home! As the time quickly approaches we are eagerly finishing up some projects at our property, getting rooms finished, training our staff, setting up welcome baskets for our residents, and anticipating their arrival.
And, YOU, our faithful community, continue to amaze us at your tremendous generosity and support! A special thanks to WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church of America) for all of the gift cards you recently gave! We were so greatly touched by that! Many others are helping us buy not only needed
items, but also our wish list items from Amazon which allows us to add those ‘special touches’ to the home and program. Thank YOU!
Please don’t stop praying, as we push through these final weeks. Some special requests would be:

My name is Mandy Cheatham and I am the events coordinator for Lighthouse for Life. This journey started for me in 2016, when I attended my first speaking
event. I anticipated coming to the event, learning how to keep my children safe, and leaving informed. At the end of the event, I was shocked with
the realities and knew I wanted to help. I got Jen’s contact information and decided to reach out to her about helping with fundraising. In December
of 2016, we hosted the first Lighthouse for Life Holiday Market. Since then, I have become invested in sharing Lighthouse for Life with others in our
community and doing my part to help fight human trafficking. About a year and half ago, Jen reached out to me about helping coordinate the calendar,
as Lighthouse for Life was growing and the opportunities for sharing the ministry were expanding quickly. Since then, I have communicated with those
who would like speaking events and I truly enjoy seeing how God is working in so many to encourage and help others. If you would like for us to share
Lighthouse for Life with your community, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Sex Buyers are the root cause of human trafficking. The money Sex Buyers spend on illicit sex is the sole source of revenue creating and sustaining the
underground sex economy in SC.
Right now SC has the 47th weakest laws in the country for penalties against Sex Buyers. Lighthouse for Life supports a new proposed law that will help
deter sex buyers from choosing to buy sex in South Carolina thus reducing the size of the trafficked population. The proposed law is S194.
So far in 2019, S194 has passed the Senated by a unanimous vote (Jan. 29, 2019) and pass the House Judiciary Committee by unanimous vote (May 7, 2019).
Now, the bill must be voted on by the House of Representatives before it can be ratified and sent to the Governor to be signed into law.
The vote before the House will most likely take place when the General Assembly reconvenes in January 2020.
We need you to please mark your calendar to help us get S194 passed in early January 2020. You can:
