My name is Vicki Jackson and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), a trainer/consultant, a military spouse, and a military veteran. I met Jen and Lisa at a Lighthouse for Life event at Radius Church a couple of years ago. I was invited to attend the event to help spread the word and answer questions in relation to the Richland County Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force. Honestly, that was truly the beginning of an amazing partnership and friendship.
Jen and Lisa are truly amazing individuals who are dedicated to helping keep our kids safe and secure by providing a loving and therapeutic home for individuals who have fallen prey to human trafficking. I am deeply honored to be a part of their team. In July 2017, my family and I relocated to California. As the saying goes, Home is where the Army sends us. I have; however, maintained my relationship with Lighthouse for Life regardless of the distance. I have been researching and creating all of the power points that Lighthouse for Life uses to train individuals, groups, and organizations through out South Carolina. If you are interested in hosting a training please contact Lighthouse for Life. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”
Any chance I get I share the great work that is being done throughout South Carolina by the Attorney General’s Office, all of the Regional Task Forces, Richland County Court Appointed Special Advocates, Lighthouse for Life, and the community, just to name a few as the list goes on. Sadly, this issue is even more prevalent here in California, especially Los Angeles. In my opinion, partnerships are the key to overcoming this battle. January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, but as we all know the awareness, prevention, protection, and prosecution continues long after and it is extremely important that we continue to the be voice for those who are voiceless. The #MeToo movement is really making a giant impact because it is not just one voice speaking out, but many voices. There is strength in numbers. Bill Richardson said, “We cannot accomplish all that we need to do without working together.”
For those of you who know me, you know that I am very passionate about what I do. I am grateful that Lighthouse for Life provides me an opportunity to share my gifts because as Mother Teresa said, “The miracle is not that we do this work, but that we are happy to do it.”
