“The first time I heard the phrase ‘human trafficking’ I had absolutely no idea what it meant. I knew about drug trafficking, but wondered, ‘how in the world do you traffic a human?’ At the time, I was living in Chicago and a close friend of mine was involved in an organization similar to Lighthouse for Life. She quickly educated me. I was shocked and saddened by the stories she told me and the level of manipulation to which these women fell victim. I’m sad to admit that I always looked down on women in prostitution and pornography as disgusting and as looking for an easy way to make some quick cash. As I heard these stories my attitude toward these women became less judgmental and more compassionate. I was educated but not motivated to become involved in the awareness of human trafficking until my first marriage fell victim to pornography and infidelity. I then understood first hand the destruction that comes from this crime. The humans being trafficked are not the only victims…the families being destroyed are as well!
After a divorce, I sold my practice in Chicago and moved back to SC to be close to my family. Since my move home 4 years ago, the Lord has blessed me beyond measure. I met a wonderful, God-loving and faithful man who is now my husband and have gained a daughter, Cameron (14) and son, Chase (12). The Lord has also tremendously blessed my new practice which has allowed me to financially support ministries such as Lighthouse for Life. I pray that the Lord multiplies not only the financial gifts given to this ministry, but also the awareness it raises about the tragedy of human trafficking.”

We are very thankful for our Board of Directors and their leadership/counsel to Lighthouse for Life. Our chairman of the board, Louis Fawcett, serves as the Senior Vice President of Principal Gifts for EdVenture Children’s Museum and is dedicated to helping organizations succeed in serving their communities. Here is his testimony.
“I first heard about human trafficking when I was working to help orphans in Eastern Europe, Ethiopia and Haiti. Learning about children being bought, sold, and bartered was horrifying. Sickened by the reality of this evil, I felt called to work against those perpetuating human trafficking. I am passionate about Lighthouse for Life because of the deep impact we will have on victims and the broad impact we will have on families in South Carolina. As a father and a servant of the Lord, I am honored to be a small part of this effort. Our generation’s legacy is to end human trafficking in every part of the world.”
On January 11, National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, leaders in the fight against trafficking shared about the realities in Richland county at a local press conference.
