“My name is Grace Barlow and I am a senior public relations student at the University of South Carolina. During freshman year, I became heavily involved
with USC’s chapter of International Justice Mission, a global anti-human trafficking organization. I quickly became aware of the horrors of modern-day
slavery and it ignited a passion to fight against it. During one of our weekly meetings, Jen Thompson came to speak about Lighthouse for Life and the
amazing work the organization was doing in Columbia and South Carolina. I knew I wanted to help, so I became an intern!
Through my internship, I’ve been able to witness the hard work that Lighthouse for Life is doing all across the Midlands and the state. It has given
me the perspective that this is a cause that requires all hands on deck. Every person involved counts and every little and big thing we can do
furthers the mission of freedom to those held captive in sex-trafficking and exploitation. Whether it’s through speaking engagements, fundraisers,
awareness events, public outreach, volunteering, or preparing to open Karis Home, the diligent staff, volunteers, and supporters behind this organization
are what keeps everything running. As the proverb goes, “It takes a village.” And I’m so proud to be part of the village that is working to fight
for liberty and justice for all.”
