"My name is Sara Phillips. I am a wife, mother of five, and have been a home educator for over 15 years. A year ago, I connected with a company named Trades
of Hope. I became intrigued with their mission to empower women out of poverty and human trafficking by partnering with artisans around the world by
selling their beautiful handmade products! The more I learned about these artisans, the more I became aware of the extent of human trafficking.
I "met" Lighthouse for Life when I signed up to be a vendor at the Lighthouse for Life Holiday Market. That is where I learned so much about the real problem
here in South Carolina. In January, I attended an event where Heather spoke and immediately signed up to volunteer with events and the Glow Run.
My unique way to volunteer for Lighthouse for Life was to throw a fundraiser birthday gathering. I invited family and friends to shop, visit, and eat cake.
This gave me an opportunity to tell them about Lighthouse for Life and to donate the commission of the party sales! Through this fundraiser, in addition
to financially benefitting Lighthouse for Life, artisans from the following countries were supported: India, Guatemala, Cambodia, Haiti, Philippines,
Uganada, USA, and Thailand. Additionally, three orders qualified for fruit trees to be donated to families in Africa AND the party qualified to have
Trades of Hope donate four life skills classes to womean in Pakistan.
Mother Teres once said, "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across waters to create many ripples." A purchase of a piece of jewelry,
a purse, or home goods has cast a ripple to Lighthouse for Life, to artisans, their families, and a multitude of others. Our small works have ripple
effects that we may never even realize."
