"My name is Maria Bykalo and I recently graduated from Irmo High School. I will be attending the University of South Carolina Honors College in the fall.
I plan on minoring in neuroscience and I am considering psychology or biology as my major.
I first heard about Lighthouse for Life through my church, where they came and spoke. However, it was not until I heard of the human trafficking bust in
several states (last fall by the FBI) that I began looking into the story behind Lighthouse for Life and try to find a way to help. After this, I decided
I wanted to host an art auction to raise money for human trafficking awareness. I contacted Lighthouse for Life about my idea and began planning it.
I made flyers and began collecting artwork from the community. I hosted the auction at my high school and all proceeds were donated to Lighthouse for
Maria and her classmates raised over $500 for Lighthouse for Life. We are so thankful for the initiative shown by this wonderful young. She has set an
excellent example of fighting against human trafficking simply by using the gifts, talents and relationships in her immediate sphere of influence.
