My name is Christina Dent. I was raised in a military family, living in a number of places. My family moved to South Carolina in 1990. I’ve been here every since. I’m a wife of almost 15 years to a loving man, stepmother to two children who are adults now and a mother to one very active 9 year old. When I’m not with my family I enjoy catching up with friends, working out and volunteering. I have a love for Christ and a heart for the hurting.
I've been a Religious Service Volunteer with incarcerated juveniles for 3 1/2 years. I want to share the love of Christ with those who feel they are unworthy or unlovable. About a year and half ago I learned about Lighthouse for Life through social media. I immediately contacted Jen Thompson and asked for Lighthouse to please come speak with the girls I was so blessed to mentor. God’s timing is perfect and He always works everything for good. With a little coordination, a few meetings and education sessions, the doors were opened for Lighthouse for Life. We have teamed up since. Lighthouse comes with me every quarter bringing awareness to the girls on human trafficking, and educating them on the many choices and circumstances that could ultimately lead to their victimization.
Human Trafficking is important to me because I volunteer with girls who are prime targets. They are vulnerable, come from broken homes, looking for someone to love them, drug issues, some are in foster care or from group homes. I have personally witnessed victims bravely come forward and say this is happening to them. These are minors. I will never forget the face of the first victim I encountered or the tears rolling down her cheeks as she shared her story. This changed me, it opened my eyes to a very dark world and it started a fire within me to do something about it. I couldn’t take away her pain, but I could hug her and pray with her. Lighthouse was able to show her that there was help and that people care. In addition, Lighthouse is able to assist the young teens in reporting the horrific crimes in a safe manner that ultimately result in investigations and arrests. Lighthouse has a love for Christ, people and are passionate about seeing human trafficking stop. This is happening here and now. It’s a dark subject that a number of people would like to ignore. Lighthouse for Life is here to shine the light on the darkness. It’s a cause worth fighting for. There are countless lives in desperate need of saving. It’s time to stop ignoring what is happening in our community and stand up and fight. Every life matters, Christ died for all of us. No ones life is less important. Thank you Lighthouse for Life for educating, bringing awareness and not ignoring the problem, but rather helping find the solution. More importantly thank you for helping those in need showing them love, grace, mercy and that there is a way out. I’m forever grateful for your mission and ministry.
